Patients have been receiving life-saving transplants of vital organs for several years, but not in Delta State. Recently, the first kidney transplant in the state was successfully performed at the state teaching hospital, write Godwin Haruna and Victor Efeizomor
Pius Ukuoma, 32, has been diagnosed of renal failure, but he has no money for the treatment. Ukuoma could barely survive on his paltry wages. Most people in his condition often travel miles from Nigeria to India to get treatment. “Kidney failure is like a death sentence for many Nigerians who can’t afford the treatment,” said Akanimo Samuel, a medical doctor. “It has become rampant in the country with little help for the sufferers.”
Those who travel to India according to Samuel spend up to N8million to get treatment in the Asian country. “I can tell you that this sickness that has impacted negatively on our people is helping the revenue of India as Nigerians flood that country seeking out solutions.

Capable Companions

Dogs have well-known reputations as loyal, faithful and loving companions, but much more, they help to build strong social skills in young adults, writes Mary Ekah
Do you have a dog?  Those who do say dogs make good companions. Yes, the bond between dogs and their owners is changing the way people live. “I can tell from my experience that if you have a dog then you surely know how the bond you built with your dog has changed you. Always being there to feed them, keeping them healthy, and looking for some kind of mutual solace in each other’s company. This connection can help transform someone’s life,” says Chuks Alfred, a dog breeder.
So the days when dogs were used as mere guards to warn their keepers about potential intruders and as an ally for hunting are gone. Dogs’ loyalty, unconditional love, friendship, and protection are given rise to the way they are cared for. There are currently 400 million dogs globally according to statistics.
A research says that keeping dogs help to

Shocking! People.com Editor Janet Mock Reveals She Was Born A Boy

She was once called Charles, but Janet Mock’s always known she was female. She and her partner, Aaron, discuss the new grey areas of human sexuality.
Twenty-three years ago, Janet Mock was a barefoot kid playing in the streets of Kalihi, a poor neighbourhood on the outskirts of Honolulu, when a game of truth or dare set in motion the defining story of her life. In the game, she plucked her grandmother’s dress from a washing line, put it on and ran down the street. It seems like a laughably innocent thing for a little girl to do, but back then Janet was not, biologically at least, a girl. She began life as Charles, the first-born son of her Hawaiian mother and African-American father.

NEW YORK– Popular blogger and People.com editor Janet Mock  goes on the record in a candid interview revealing that she was in fact born a boy in a recent interview with Marie Claire. In the interview, Mock goes deep discussing her upbringing as a boy, her operation, losing her virginity and her current relationship.

facebook; the ten year old Adult

This month marks the 10th year anniversary of social networking giant  – Facebook. It has been a decade’s work of connecting people across the continent.
It has been 10 years of hard work by the Palo Alto, California, United States of America- based technology business to stay afloat and not go the path of Friendster, that packed up in 2004 and MySpace, whose sun permanently went East in 2008.
It has also been more than half a decade of my use of this web-based service; that makes it possible for individuals to put together public profiles, connect with users in a mutual way and also look through the connections others on the same platform are making.

Fish are fast becoming the choice of many people who desire to keep pets. It is interesting to also know that in many Asian communities, fish are believed to bring good fortune. For example, in China, Feng Shui (Chinese philosophical system of harmonising the human existence with the surrounding environment) body and mind teachers advocate having an aquarium in the home and office because it brings in water, one of the five elements of the earth; and creates tranquillity and harmony by generating positive energy.
The presence and movement of water are believed to bring wealth, prosperity and good fortune, with gold fish in particular believed to help boost finances.
