She was once called Charles, but Janet Mock’s always known she was female. She and her partner, Aaron, discuss the new grey areas of human sexuality.
Twenty-three years ago, Janet Mock was a barefoot kid playing in the streets of Kalihi, a poor neighbourhood on the outskirts of Honolulu, when a game of truth or dare set in motion the defining story of her life. In the game, she plucked her grandmother’s dress from a washing line, put it on and ran down the street. It seems like a laughably innocent thing for a little girl to do, but back then Janet was not, biologically at least, a girl. She began life as Charles, the first-born son of her Hawaiian mother and African-American father.
NEW YORK– Popular blogger and People.com editor Janet Mock goes on the record in a candid interview revealing that she was in fact born a boy in a recent interview with Marie Claire. In the interview, Mock goes deep discussing her upbringing as a boy, her operation, losing her virginity and her current relationship.
She tells Marie Claire:
Once, when I was 5-years-old, a little girl who lived next door to my grandmother dared me to put on a muumuu and run across a nearby parking lot. So I did. I threw it on, hiked it up in one hand, and ran like hell. It felt amazing to be in a dress. But suddenly my grandmother appeared, a look of horror on her face. I knew immediately that I had crossed some kind of line.
While on these hormones, I lost my virginity at age 17 to a guy I met while I was working at a boutique. He knew my background but said he didn’t care. Even though I trusted him, I couldn’t relax and insisted on keeping the lights off.
The grown of picture of the male is obviously not her. Janet is mixed race, and the gentle above is obvious not.
ReplyDeleteLearn to be more observation to the obvious factor.
ReplyDeletethanks for the observation; but you must understand that this is no one's opinion. she herself toled the world she was born a man, and certainly the young man does look a bit like her
ReplyDeleteShe was born a baby and transitioned starting at 15. These 2 men are clearly not a 15 year old Hawaiian/black boy.
