Scene of the Blast |
By Evelyn Okakwu
The repeated occurrence of a blast in the Nyanya Motto Park
has in no small measure attracted the interest of a vast majority of Nigerians.
In this report, some Nigerian speaks on the issues and
effects it has on the nation.
Peoples Daily: What do
you think is the reason why this problem seems to be growing in Nigeria
Salisu jibril: “The reason why all of these things are
happening is that we do not have a leadership in Nigeria, because if we do how
can a president, decide to shoot up the price of fuel, and cause Nigerians another
round of untold hardship, barely one week after the Madala bomb blast. How can
we hear that they have killed over 41 young students in Yobe and this president
will go ahead to hold a centenary celebration, just because according to them
and his likes, they may say it has already been planned before the event
happened. Yet they forget that the Security Council meeting was already planned
before the death of the brother of the Vice President may his soul rest in
peace; but
despite the security situation of the country, the leadership of this
country still found it quite convenient to suspend the meeting. Look at what he
did, during the first attack at Nyanya, he went ahead to celebrate in Kano, an
act many have described as an effort geared toward achieving a successful a
second tenure.
But another discussant Gloria Okeke; who quickly feels the
need to chip in on the issue had this to say: what I have to say is that both the
President and his state leaders who are governors in this various places have
all failed. They are there and people are dying, it is only in Nigeria that you
will have leaders who head a failing organisation or a state like in the case
of Nigeria and rather than do what is necessary to better the situation, they
will remain adamant and no one will talk to them as they need to. How can these
governors say that they are good leaders and these things are happening in their
land?
Salisu quickly adds: But it is a Military government that is
going on now in those states, so its not wholly their faults.
Yet to that, Gloria quickly adds, this situation was already
bad before the state of emergency started. In any case, I would prefer that the
governors allow the military to function so that we will know if they have succeeded
or if they are actually failures. But all of them, whether the president or the
governors of these States should, for the sake of integrity drop because all of
them have failed Nigerians,
A third speaker who preferred not be mentioned says: This
thing started like a joke in Maiduguri during the administration of the formal
governor of the state, we all thought then that it will remain there till it eventually
dies off, just like previous crises in the country, but this one now has grown
out of hand. A country that has soldiers who fight for the whole of the West African
region in ECOMOG cannot defend itself with a set of terrorists who may not even
be as sophisticated as they are trying to make them look.
So if the people of Chibok do not decide to stage such a
protest; the leadership of this country and indeed that of the States will be
silent over their issues. They are all sitting down watching because they know
that it will not very easily affect them, the action of this government towards
the demise of the relative of the number 2 person will go a long way to tell
you that if this whole menace was to be affecting them directly, they would
have found a lasting solution to it.
Let me tell you, the problem was all organized. Some failing
politicians in this country have made utterances that could have earned them difficult
stands today given the prevailing situations. They told Nigerian on the media
that if they do not gain power that the country will know no peace, yet what is
happening now? My problem is the fact that it is the poor and the unsuspecting
that are largely affected, the rich ones who rig elections at all cost to gain
power have been left happy while the poor innocent Nigerians are made to live
in untold hardship and fear of the next possible moment”
The comments of this Nigerians and the obviously dangerous
trend in our hands should by all means force the leaders of the county to find
an urgent and lasting solution to the problem, as the tone in their voices
depict an utter frustration an impending danger from the effects of a prolonged
pain.
