DSS says Nigeria in no risk of danger over poll

The Department of State Services (DSS) says Nigerians are not in any risk of danger,  during the electioneering period, since it is doing all that is necessary to ensure the safety of lives during and after the elections in March.
A statement from the department’s Deputy Director of Public Relations, Marilyn Ogar said yesterday that citizens relocating to their States of Origin in anticipation of violence during the forthcoming general elections need not go anywhere as they will be safe where ever they are.

The statement further adds that the service, and indeed the long arm of the law, will not condone rumour mongering, stressing that anyone found wanting will face the consequences, as provided by the law

Police detains officer, who shot infant to death

The police Force in Kano state says it has put behind bars, a police man who shot dead an infant on Sunday in the state.
Addressing newsmen on the matter,  the police spokesman from the state, ASP Musa Majiya said  the directive to enforce the disciplinary action was given by the Assistant Inspector General of Police  (AIG), Adenrele Shinaba  in charge of the command, adding that the officer is currently undergoing trial and in detention.

The AIG who vowed to punish the officer, following the outcome of the trial, charged others in his command to be of good conductor face the repercussion of their indiscipline. He added that the police regulation, force order 237 which states clearly the right time for an officer top use his fire arm, must be respected.

Earlier reports by eyewitnessindicated that the detained officer opened fire on a vehicle conveying the deceased at a check point on sunday in  ‘Kwani Mani’ a popular police checkpoints in Bichi local government area of Kano state, because the driver of the vehicle allegedly refused to stop when he flagged him down for stop and search.
Narrating the ordeal Malam Inure Imamu Mainasara father to one of the ladies shot in her stomach by the police, said his ten year old daughter, accompanied relatives for a visit in a small village called ‘Yana’, adding that the incident occurred on their way back.
The report added that Mainasara said he only saw his daughter, Amira Imamu yesterday at the Murtala Muhammad Hospital, Kano with her intestines out while medical personnel at the hospital were trying to recupperate her.
According to him his daughter was unlucky to be the victim of the heinous act committed by undisciplined police officer as a result of her persistence that she would want to be part of the visit, if not she would’nt have been a victim, he lamented.
